I am from India … I am from Turkey … I am from Africa …
… can I participate in Estonia’s e-Residency program?
When it comes to the e-Residency program, this is a very common question I receive. If you are unsure whether or not you qualify, then I have good news for you.
ANYONE can participate in Estonia’s e-Residency program. There are no restrictions in regards to certain countries or the citizenship you hold.
All you need to apply are the following:
- Government-issued ID (such as passport)
- Passport-style digital image (can’t be scanned)
- Visa or Mastercard to pay the fee for the application
Often times, people from countries in Africa, Asia or generally outside of the European Union, the U.S. and Canada benefit the most from starting their company via the e-Residency program.
The reality is if you live in a Third World or developing country, there are restrictions in regards to the online services/platforms you can use and you might also run into banking issues.
Banking Issues (without e-Residency) …
In many cases doing business with customers in Western countries comes with high fees or you run into legitimacy issues, such as people being hesitant to do business with you because your business is location in Africa or Asia.
If you are in such a situation, then you need to realize that in addition to possible tax-saving benefits, establishing your company in Estonia can instantly lead to more sales as an EU company enjoys (rightfully so) more credibility and trust.
Another often overlooked benefit of an e-Residency company is risk diversification, which is especially important if you are from a country that isn’t exactly democratic.
When you operate an Estonian company, all your company’s funds are held in an European Union bank account (in Euro) – outside of the control of your home country.
